Registration

Q.		*Should I register as a delegate or as an exhibitor?*
A.		Unless you are an exhibitor at the exhibit or a member of the exhibitor staff manning the booth, you should register as a delegate.

Q.		*Should I register as a student?*
A.		If you are a full-time student, you should register as a student only if you are attending or presenting a paper poster. More specifically, students presenting regular papers must pay the full regular registration fee.

Abstracts and Acceptance Notifications

Q.		*I have submitted an abstract and have not received a notification. What should I do?*
A.		Contact techchair@oceans08mtsieeequebec.org immediately and provide your abstract number.

Q.		*Is it still time to submit abstracts?*
A.		No. Under certain special circumstances, the Technical Chairpersons may elect to add your contribution. Please contact techchair@oceans08mtsieeequebec.org

Papers & Publications

Q.		*What is the procedure to obtain permission to reuse IEEE-copyrighted material?*
A.		The procedure can be found here. Authors type in the information about the material they wish to reuse and submit their request electronically.

Q.		*Can I publish the same material at the conference and in another Journal, such as the Journal of Oceanic Engineering?*
A.		The short answer is no. However, the conference material can be expanded to form a new paper: IEEE’s technical publications shall include original material which appears only once in the archival literature. Unusual circumstances may allow for exceptions to this policy. Read the excerpt below taken out of the editorial of the IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering, vol. 32, no. 2, April 2007: Except as indicated in [1], authors should only submit original work that has not appeared elsewhere for publication and is not under review for another refereed publication. Authors who use their own previously published work(s) as a basis for a new submission, are required to cite the previous work(s) and very briefly indicate how the new submission offers substantively novel contributions beyond those of the previously published work(s)”. It is common in technical publishing for material to be presented at various stages of its evolution. For example, authors might publish early ideas in a workshop, more developed work in a conference, and fully developed contributions as journal or transactions papers. The IEEE recognizes this evolutionary publication process as an important means of scientific communication and fully supports this publishing paradigm. At the same time the IEEE requires that this evolutionary process be fully referenced. At times, it may be necessary for authors to reuse portions of their own previously published work or to include material from other authors. All reused text, charts, photographs, or artwork must be clearly referenced to their origin (publication, organization, person, etc.). Authors must obtain written permission from the publisher who holds the copyrights, or from the original source if the material has not been published (e.g. technical reports, theses). When authors have expanded their conference proceedings paper into a manuscript suitable for publication in the Journal, please have them point their web-browser to http://joe.msubmit.net and follow the instructions provided.
